How It Happened
The Hawks controlled the game from the first faceoff, scoring four minutes into the contest to lead. Junior Smith started his hat trick quest off a feed from James Shipley that hit the back of Tommy Gross' net with 8:07 on the clock. Saint Joseph's answered with a four-goal run that stretched to the final three minutes of the first to lead 5-1.

Sophomore Scane ended the first with a dagger to the upper left of the Hawks' net to cut the deficit to four goals heading into the second.

SJU kept its hot pace to open the next 15 minutes, scoring a pair to lead 7-2 with 8:26 left of the first half. Senior Rubin disrupted the short run with his 11th goal of the season, but Saint Joseph's responded with an unassisted goal from Toron Eccleston to lead by five at the break.

The Hawks opened the second half with their ninth goal of the game, but freshman Provost accepted a pass from Walsh to hit the back of keeper Gross' net to score the first goal of his Penn career to slash the lead to 9-5. SJU added one more goal to the board around the eight-minute mark of the third to bump its goal total to double figures.

Penn tried to rally a comeback with three goals, stretching from 2:33 of the third till 7:37 of the fourth to be within three goals with around six minutes left of regulation. Smith scored back-to-back goals to complete his hat trick, and Walsh scored his sole of the game to cut the lead to 10-7.

Unfortunately for the Red and Blue, the Hawks added two more security goals to the scoresheet to push the game to its final tally of 12-7.
