Seven From Fencing Qualify for 2024 NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Committee has announced the field of 144 competitors who will participate in the 2024 National Collegiate Men's and Women's Fencing Championship, with seven members of the nationally ranked University of Pennsylvania fencing programs making the cut.

Blake Broszus, Sabrina Cho, Gian Dhingra, Grace Hu, Bryce Louie, Katina Proestakis Ortiz, and Joseph Wu will represent Penn at the championships in Columbus March 21-24. Broszus, Dhingra, Louie, and Proestakis Ortiz all medaled at the 2024 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional hosted by Drake University this past Saturday to help secure their spots in the Buckeye State.

For the #7 women, Proestakis Ortz led the way at the regional, grabbing bronze in foil, followed closely by her teammate Cho in fourth place. During the epee round, freshman Hu landed sixth place to help cement her spot in the first championships of her collegiate career.

The #8 men had a strong performance in the Garden State, especially in foil, with senior Broszus winning gold and Louie following in second place. Freshmen Dhingra and Wu continued their stellar first-year campaigns, with Dhingra capturing silver in sabre and Wu garnering fourth in epee.
