Last Time Out
#18 Penn swept its New England road trip last weekend, crushing Brown 39-0 on Saturday and Harvard 39-6 on Sunday. The Quakers silenced the Bears from the first battle to the last, as
Ryan Miller (133),
CJ Composto (141),
Andy Troczynski (149),
Lucas Revano (157),
Kaya Sement (165),
Nick Incontrera (174),
Maximus Hale (174),
Martin Cosgrove (197),
John Stout (285), and
Max Gallagher (125) all won their matches. Cosgrove and Miller won their first bouts of the year, with Cosgrove's win marking the first of his collegiate career. The Red and Blue shifted the lineup last Sunday but still crushed the Crimson on their turf. Freshman Gallagher,
Michael Colaiocco (133), junior Composto,
Jude Swisher (149), senior Revano, junior Hale,
Cole Urbas (197), and senior Stout secured wins over Harvard to account for Penn's 34 points in the victory. Gallagher, Hale, and Swisher's wins were all decided by pins, the most Penn has had in a dual this season, with Swisher's marking his first collegiate dual win. Hale is still undefeated in duals with an 8-0 record boosted by the pair of Ivy wins.
Undefeated Ivies
Three Ivies are currently tied for first place in the Ivy League standings, with the Red and Blue, Big Red, and Princeton all sitting at 3-0. Cornell will battle it out with Princeton on Friday, Feb. 9, before the contest in the City of Brotherly Love, while the Quakers will not see the Tigers till Saturday, Feb. 19.
Quakers in the Rankings
Seven Quakers sit in the Top 33 of the FloWrestling and Intermat rankings this week after stellar performances in last weekend's sweep over the Bears and Crimson. Senior Colaiocco shifted up to #9 in the 133 rankings after beating Harvard's Coleman Nogle by a decision, 8-4, this past Sunday. #6 Incontrera leads Penn in the polls and is followed by #9 Colaiocco, #16 Composto, #17 Hale, #23 Revano, #24 Urbas, and #33 Gallagher.
Big Red in the Rankings
Cornell brings a stacked lineup to University City, as nine wrestlers are ranked in the Top-25 of their weight classes heading into Saturday's meet. The Big Red are led by #2 Vito Arujau (133), who #9 Colaiocco had seen earlier in the season at the Journeymen Classic. #4 Julian Ramirez (165), #6 Meyer Shapiro (157), #7 Chris Foca (184), #7 Jacob Cardenas (197), #12 Vince Cornella (141), #17 Lewis Fernandes (285), and #23 Ethan Fernandez (149) round out Cornell's presence in the rankings.
