The D/H Road Weekend
*This marks the 65th time the Quakers have played a Friday/Saturday schedule at Dartmouth/Harvard, but it's the first time since the 2019-20 season.
*Penn has swept this road trip 34 times (most recently in 2011-12), split it 20 times (most recently in 2018-19), and been swept 10 times (last in 2019-20 and five times since 2013-14).
The Series with Dartmouth
*Friday's meeting is the 225th between the Quakers and the Big Green, with Penn holding a sizable 159-65 lead in the series.
*That said, Penn is looking for its first win in Hanover since 2019.
*Penn won the first game this season, rolling to an 80-51 victory January 6 at The Palestra.
Tyler Perkins led the way with 19 points, while
Andrew Laczkowski and
Reese McMullen had 10 each.
The Series with Harvard
*Saturday's meeting is the 186th meeting between the Quakers and the Crimson, Penn's lead in the series again is pretty substantial (138-47).
*Penn has also had some success here in Cambridge recently, taking an 80-72 decision last year and a 78-74 victory two seasons ago.
*The first meeting this season took place on January 20, Harvard leaving The Palestra with a 70-61 win.
Nick Spinoso and
Perkins both scored 12 points for Penn in the loss, Spinoso adding four assists and a game-high eight rebounds.
Big 5 Honors For Slajchert
Senior
Clark Slajchert was named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week for the first time this season on Monday after he led Penn in scoring in both Ivy games last weekend (12 vs. Yale, 32 vs. Brown).
Penn MBB by the Numbers
1 - Games this season in which senior
Clark Slajchert did not reach double figures in scoring (not including the houston game, when he was injured six minutes in); that was Monmouth on November 26, when he was "held" just shy of double digits with nine.
3 - Penn players with a double-double this season: junior
Nick Spinoso, who has four; freshman
Tyler Perkins; and junior
Ed Holland III, who recorded career highs in points (18) and rebounds (11) two weeks ago at Brown.
4 - Non-conference opponents who were ranked in the AP Top 25 poll at the time Penn played them: Villanova (#21 on November 13), Kentucky (#16 on December 9), Houston (#3 on December 30) and Auburn (#25 on January 2).
The last time Penn played four non-conference games against ranked opponents was 1994-95.
4 - Overtime games played by Penn this season, the Quakers going 1-3 in those contests.
Only three teams in program history have played more—1983-84 (6), 2010-11 (5), 2018-19 (5).
4 - Consecutive games in which junior
George Smith scored eight points, before he went for three last Saturday vs. Brown;
prior to that, he had just 11 in Penn's first four Ivy games and had not scored eight in a game since going for 10 against Monmouth on November 26.
5 - 20-point games put up by
Perkins so far this season; the last freshman with that many such games was last year's Ivy League Player of the Year,
Jordan Dingle, who had five in 2019-20 when he was the Ivy League Rookie of the Year.
The last freshman with six such games? Tyler Bernardini in 2007-08.
11 - Penn players with a double-figure scoring game this season; among D1 programs only Texas State (12) has more.
That includes four players with at least one 20-point game (Slajchert 6, Perkins 5, Brown 2, Spinoso 1).
11 - Games this season in which
Brown has hit at least three three-pointers (actually six games with four 3FG, five with three 3FG);
he is third among Ivy players in overall 3FG per game (2.4), behind only Brown's Kino Lilly Jr. (3.0) and Yale's John Poulakidas (2.5).
14 - Games this season in which Penn has started four left-handers (
Spinoso,
Brown,
Perkins, junior
George Smith), including three of the last four contests (at Yale, at Princeton, vs. Yale).
17 - Double-figure scoring games by
Perkins, the team lead and most by a freshman since Dingle had 18 in 2019-20;
the last freshman with at least 19 such games was AJ Brodeur, who had 22 in the 2016-17 season.
32 - Points scored by
Slajchert last Saturday against Brown, one shy of his season/career high; he now has three 30-point games this season and five for his career (two of them against Brown).
42 - Points scored by junior
Reese McMullen in Penn's nine Ivy games, led by a career-high 15 at Cornell on January 15;
that's nearly double what he totaled across the Quakers' 15 non-conference games (23).
43 - Of senior
Andrew Laczkowski's 73 rebounds this season, 43 of them (58.9 pct.) have come on the offensive glass.
52 - Points scored by
Holland across Penn's last seven games, including 15 at Columbia on January 27 and 18 at Brown; that's more than he had in the Quakers' first 15 games against D1 opponents this season (45).
81.5 - Penn's free-throw percentage across its last four games (44-54).
555 - Points scored by
Perkins (338) and
Brown (217) this season, the second-most by a freshman duo in program history; Tyler Bernardini (362) and Jack Eggleston (247) combined for 609 in 2007-08.
Perkins' 338 points are fourth on Penn's freshman scoring list behind Brodeur (385 in 2016-17), Bernardini (362 in 2007-08) and Ugonna Onyekwe (340 in 1999-00).
