Penn's Last Time Out
The Quakers participated in three meets this past weekend, competing in the Terrier Classic, Penn State National Open, and River Hawk Invitational. At the Terrier Classic in Boston,
Isabella Whittaker continued her dominance as she ran the 400 meter in a time of 51.96, a full second off the program and Ivy League records she set just two weeks ago.
Whittaker also joined Christiana Nwachuku, Jocelyn Niemiec, and Aliya Garozzo in the 4x400-meter relay as they won and broke another facility and Ivy League record with a time of 3:32.44, outdistancing second-place Stanford (3.37.99) by more than five seconds.
On the men's side, Scott Toney claimed a record as he broke the 18-foot mark and cleared a height of 5.50 meters (18 feet 0.5 inches) in the pole vault at Penn State.
Kampton Kam, Mark Hellwig, and Conrad Moore took first, second, and fourth in the men's high jump at State College. Kam took home the victory with a height of 2.15 meters (7 feet 0.5 inches) while also setting the national record in his home country of Singapore.
Lastly, in addition to the Terrier Classic and the Penn State National Open, it was a successful meet at the River Hawk Invitational hosted by UMass Lowell. To start the meet, Moforehan Abinusawa clocked in at 7.44 in the 60-meter dash in both the qualifiers and finals, as she defeated Arizona's Jade Brown (7.52) to take home the victory.
Garozzo earned the win in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.55 seconds in the heat and 8.50, a full second faster than second place.
Penn's third win at River Hawk came in the 400 as Niemiec took the crown at a time of 54.27, outrunning 52 other runners who ran the distance on Friday.
The men's best performances came from Shane Gardner in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 8.01 seconds to claim third, and Alec Jackson in the 500, claiming a third-place finish among 46 runners at a time of 1:03.37.
