How It Happened
The Hoyas controlled the pace of the game from the opening faceoff, scoring five unanswered goals in the first, with two coming from Jordan Wray (Georgetown) to lead 5-0 after the first.

The Quakers retaliated to start the second, with junior DiNola scoring the Red and Blue's first goal of the year about three minutes into the quarter to slash the lead to 5-1. Two minutes later, senior attacker Schain found the back of the net to put Penn behind by three. Junior Walsh scored the Red and Blue's third straight goal and his first of the game at 7:32 in the second to cut the lead to two goals at 5-3.

Georgetown simmered the Quaker offense down a bit, adding two more to the board with a little over four minutes left of the half to lead by five again. Walsh tried to get the momentum back for the Quakers, finding the back of the net for the second time in the quarter with 2:57 on the clock, but Hoya Graham Bundy Jr. scored one more goal to close out the first half ahead 8-4.

Penn came out of the halftime break with a point to prove, as Smith recorded his first goal of the season 47 seconds into the third. A penalty on Georgetown three minutes after Smith's goal allowed Walsh to record his first hat trick of the year and put the Quakers within by two goals.

Ultimately, Georgetown answered with back-to-back man-up goals within 17 seconds of each to push its lead to 10-6 to close out the third before opening the fourth with another to extend the game to five goals for the third time in the game.

Freshman Hoffman broke up the Hoya's offense with the first goal of his college career at 13:09 of the fourth. A minute later, senior Shipley netted his first of the year to cut the deficit to three goals. Hoffman still had some fire in him from the momentous milestone, adding another goal to the board to cut the lead to two at 11-9 with a little over ten minutes left of the fourth.

Unfortunately for the Quakers, Bundy Jr. added another goal to the board to push the score to its final tally of 12-9 as the Quakers could not get another one past the Hoyas keeper to close the game.
