NEW YORK, N.Y. – The nationally ranked University of Pennsylvania fencing programs wrapped up the first day of the 2024 Ivy League Championships, winning three combined contests on Saturday in the Big Apple.
The #6 women are tied for third place, while the #8 men hold fourth place after the first day of the tournament. The women grabbed a pair of wins against #3 seed Yale (17-10) and #7 seed Brown (23-4), while the men won their contest with the #3 seed Yale (17-10).
Individually, 13 Quakers ended day one in the top ten of their events, with six representing the men and seven the women.
For the men, Bryce Louie and Blake Broszus led the squad after they both went 7-2 on the day to sit at tied third foil. Marcel Merchant (sixth), Simon Kushkov (ninth), and Gian Dhingra (tenth) account for the Quakers in the top ten of sabre, while freshman Joseph Wu holds sixth place in epee to round out the men's placement for the day.
On the women's side, freshman Victoria Kuznetsov currently sits second in epee after going 7-2 on the day to lead the charge. Kuznetsov is closely followed by her teammates Grace Hu and Elizabeth Wang, who are tied for fourth in epee. Senior Sabrina Cho and Katina Proestakis Ortiz hold third and fourth place in foil, while Hailey Lu and Vivian Lu are neck and neck in the sabre event at fifth and sixth place to even out the women in the top ten.

The Quakers wrap up the Ivy League Championships on Sunday, with the women opening the day against Harvard at 10 a.m. while the men hit the piste at 2:15 p.m. for a battle with Harvard.
