Miller Picks Up USBWA National Freshman of the Week Award

INDIANAPOLIS – A day removed from earning her first Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor of the 2024-25 season, University of Pennsylvania freshman guard Sarah Miller was named Tamika Catchings National Freshman of the Week by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) on Tuesday afternoon.

Miller is the second-consecutive Penn freshman to win the award after Mataya Gayle did so in 2023-24. Gayle went on to be named the Ivy's Rookie of the Year.

Miller scored a game-high—and career-high—21 points with 18 in the first half on a career-high five three-pointers to lead the Quakers to a 74-63 win over La Salle in the opening game of the Big 5 Classic on Friday afternoon.

She recorded four triples in a three-minute stretch, allowing Penn to re-take the lead late in the second quarter against the Explorers.

In 10 games this season, Miller has made the last six starts at guard and is shooting 47.8 percent (22-for-46) from the field and 47.1 percent (16-for-34) from three-point range. She's averaging 6.4 points per game and 2.6 rebounds while averaging 16.4 minutes per game.

Entering a two-week winter break, Penn sits second in the Ivy standings at 7-3, trailing only Harvard. The Quakers return to The Palestra Dec. 20 to host Delaware State at 11:30 a.m.
