PHILADELPHIA – A big weekend on the mats means a big weekly award! The Ivy League announced its conference Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, with
Jude Swisher of the University of Pennsylvania wrestling team earning the award.
Sophomore Swisher had a monster weekend at the PRTC Keystone Classic, taking the 157 individual title and Most Outstanding Wrestler for the first time in his collegiate career.
Swisher rolled through the 157 bracket, winning his first two matches against Drexel's Aboubakare Diaby (20-3) and Virginia Tech's Matt Henrich (20-5) by tech fall. The State College native clinched his spot in the finals off a decision over Ivy foe Jimmy Harrington (Harvard), 5-1.
The final matchup of the tournament was the best of the day for Swisher, as he came back from a 6-1 deficit in the first period to earn a hard-fought, 10-8 win over Central Michigan's Johnny Lovett.
Swisher and the rest of the Quakers are back in action on Friday, Dec. 6, heading to Virginia for a 7 p.m. dual.
