Wrestling Drops Dual Opener to Northern Colorado, 22-13

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania wrestling team dropped its dual opener on Saturday afternoon, falling 22-13 to Northern Colorado in The Palestra.
 
Cross Wasilewski (149), Nick Incontrera (174), and John Pardo won their bouts in the Homecoming battle to highlight Penn's performance against the Bears.
 
Quaker Notemeal
*Alex Almeyda (133), Josh Labarbera (197), Pardo, Nate Taylor (184), and #13 Wasilewski made their dual debuts against Northern Colorado.
 
*Freshmen Pardo and Wasilewski's victories mark the first dual wins of their collegiate careers.
 
*#7 Incontrera opened his senior campaign with the sole shutout of the day, taking down his opponent 15-0.
 
How It Happened
Wasilewski won the Red and Blue's first match of the day, taking down Benji Alanis in two periods. Wasilewski worked quickly, leading by 10-1 after the first two minutes, carried by a takedown and back points. The New Jersey native put the nail in the coffin in the second, tacking on another takedown and for more points to win his debut 18-2.
 
#7 Incontrera started the new year hot, silencing Aydin Rix-McElhinney to cut the Bears' lead to 16-10. The senior led 11-0 after the first period and added back points in the second to take his first dual of the season.
 
Pardo won Penn's last bout of the day to highlight his Quaker dual debut. The freshmen tallied two takedowns over Remington Peterson in the first to hold an early 6-2 lead. Pardo ramped up his momentum in the third with two more takedowns to end the meeting with an 11-7 decision.

The Quakers are back in The Palestra next weekend, grappling in the 2024 PRTC Keystone Classic on Sunday, Nov. 24.
