BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Pennsylvania wrestling team opened the 2024-25 season on Sunday at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic at Freedom High School.
 
#8 Nick Incontrera carried Penn at Journeymen, winning the 174A bracket to earn the hammer award.

*The Quakers had 20 other grapplers land in the top six of their weights at the tournament.
 
* Reed Fullmer (165E), Xander Kuokkanen (174D), Paul Ognissanti (157B), John Pardo (285B), Denzel Perez (197E), Nate Taylor (184C), and Cross Wasilewski (149A) made their collegiate debuts today.
 
*Senior Ryan Miller (133B) and freshman Fullmer grabbed the other first places finish at Journeymen.
 
*#15 CJ Composto (141A), Evan Mougalian (141B), #19 Wasilewski, #20 Jude Swisher (157A), Andy Troczynski (165C), freshman Taylor, and Zach Delsanter (285C) all placed second at their weights in the season opener.
 
How It Happened
Senior Incontrera rolled through all three of his opponents at Journeymen, taking down NC State's Matty Singleton (11-2 DEC), Illinois' Danny Braunagel (8-5 DEC), and Cornell's Simon Ruiz (6-2 DEC) to win the first hammer of his collegiate career.
 
Composto, Wasilewski, and Swisher all won a pair of bouts in the A brackets at their weights to take second. Composto topped Rutgers' Max Hermes (17-2 TF) and NC State's Ryan Jack (4-1 DEC) to open his senior season. First-year Wasilewski and sophomore Swisher picked up two ranked a piece, with Wasilewski topping Pitt's #29 Finn Solomon (9-1 MD) and Arizona State's #14 Jesse Vasquez (7-4 DEC), while Swisher beat #21 Jason Kraisser of Illinois (15-2 MD) and NC State's #6 Ed Scott (5-3 DEC).
 
Senior Miller won all three bouts in the 133B bracket, taking down LIU's Kaelan Francios (2:21 F), NC State's Dreagen Orine (11-2 MD), and the Wolfpack's Troy Hohman (11-5 DEC) to land first place.
 
First-year Fullmer topped Sacred Heart's Anthony Mann (16-1 TF), Lehigh's Richie Grungo (8-0 MD), and LIU's James Johnston (17-2 TF) to win first in his collegiate debut.
