How It Happened
The Quakers started the game strong, as
Owen Sullivan and
Erickson Sakalosky slammed back-to-back shots at Harvard's goalkeeper Lucian Wood in the eighth minute to open the offensive chances on the day. Harvard's first chance of the match came from a corner in the 18th minute, but senior Burney headed the ball away to disrupt any offensive chances.
The next shot in the first did not come until the 34th minute when the Crimson's Erick Dalaker got a good look off a corner kick, but his header went high before the Quaker defense had to do any work. The final shot of the quarter came from senior
Charlie Gaffney, who charged down the field in the 41st minute, but his shot was saved by the Crimson's keeper to end the first-half scoring chances.
Forward Korzeniowski came out of the break with a point to prove for Penn, checking back into the match in the 55th minute and immediately putting a shot on the board that went wide. A minute later, the Crimson's defense made a blunder, allowing junior Cayelli to dish the ball to Korzeniowski, who snuck one past Wood to break the scoreless tie in the 57th minute.
Harvard did not record its first shot in the second half until the 65th minute, but Andreas Savva's shot went wide before goalkeeper Falcon had to do any work. A minute later, sophomore
Jack-Ryan Jeremiah tried to double the lead with back-to-back shots, but both ultimately went high.
Both offenses were fairly quiet for the next few minutes, but the Crimson finally attempted their first shot on goalkeeper Falcon in the 75th minute. Luckily, the sophomore held strong to keep the battle at one with time dwindling. With less than ten minutes left in the match, Harvard's offense turned up the heat, as Juho Ojanen recorded back-to-back shots, with one registering on Falcon in the 80th minute, but the keeper made his final save of the match to keep the Crimson off the board.
Senior Korzeniowski tried to double the lead with four minutes left, but Harvard's goalkeeper made the save to keep the score at its final tally of 1-0.
