How It Happened
Cornell scored in the first 30 seconds when The Big Red forced a turnover on the Quakers. Grace Leahy dribbled the ball up and passed it over to Ashley Plzak for the goal.
Seven minutes later, The Big Red added another goal. Cornell was awarded back-to-back penalty corners. After not converting on the first, it found the back of the net on the second one. Julia Ramsey inserted the ball and Georgia Kelly scored.
The game remained 2-0 after the first half despite multiple chances from Penn. In the second quarter alone, the Red and Blue had four shots on goal.
Penn's offensive chances converted into goals in the third quarter. With six and a half minutes left in the quarter, Loozen took the ball from almost the center line and drove it down to the circle. Shooting from the right side, she hit a shot top shelf to cut the deficit.
Five minutes later, Ryan scored the equalizer. The Quakers were in the Cornell defensive zone with the ball. They moved it across the field until
Sophie Freedman threw a ball in the circle. Mandato got it and dumped it to Ryan for the goal.
The fourth quarter was a defensive affair that saw three shots total from both sides. Regulation ended with a 2-2 score.
In the first overtime period, Penn generated looks but came up empty. It had three shots in the period compared to none for Cornell but Martha Broderick and the Big Red defense made the necessary stops.
It took three minutes in the second overtime period for a winner to be determined. Penn and Cornell each traded shots before The Big Red dealt the final blow. Mueller slipped behind the Quaker defense and Plzak found her. Mueller whipped the ball around
Ruby de Frees for the goal.
