PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania of women's tennis team had another successful day on the court, getting four players into the semifinal round across singles and doubles at the ITA Regional the Quakers are hosting at the Hamlin Tennis Center.
In doubles,
Eileen Wang,
Sabine Rutlauka,
Esha Velaga and
Lara Stojanovski have fought all the way to the semifinal round with hopes of winning the tournament, but also getting into the NCAA Doubles Championship.
Rutlauka and Wang went 2-0 on Sunday, defeating Rutgers' Zuzanna Frankowska and Jackeline Lopez 8-1 and then taking down Princeton's Eva Elbaz and Alice Ferlito 8-3. As a result, they will play Delaware's Navya Vadlamudi and Greta Schieroni in one of Monday's semis.
Velaga and Stojanovski also took down the Tigers in their first match of the day, 8-5. After that, the young duo faced Penn State's Patricia Grigoras and Jordina Cegarra Ramirez and beat them 8-7, winning the tiebreaker 7-5. Velaga and Stojanovski will play Penn State's Olivia Dorner and Maiko Uchijima in the other doubles semi.
Rutlauka beat Dorner in singles 6-4, 6-1 and then her teammate
Eileen Wang 6-4,6-3. Velaga, meanwhile, had no problems on Sunday, taking down a pair of Ivy League opponents today. In her first match she defeated Columbia's Winta Tewolde in two sets (6-0, 6-3) and Princeton's Isabella Chivv in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 6-4).
