PHILADELPHIA – The Ivy League has announced its weekly awards in men's basketball, and for the second time this month University of Pennsylvania freshman
Tyler Perkins has been named Ivy League Rookie of the Week. In addition, Perkins also was named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week on the men's side, the first Penn player so honored this season.
Perkins—who won the Ivy award for the first time this season back on January 8—led all players with 25 points in Penn's 84-81 loss at Columbia on Saturday, with 17 of them coming in the second half as the Quakers fell short in a valiant attempt to make up a late, double-digit deficit. Perkins also tied for game-high honors in rebounds with eight, sharing the honor with teammate
Nick Spinoso. Perkins also had two assists and a steal in Saturday's game and knocked down a trio of treys.
Perkins remains second among Penn players and eighth among Ivy Leaguers in overall scoring (14.7 ppg) and rebounding (5.8 rpg) this season. He also leads the Quakers and is fourth among Ivy players with 29 steals, is tied for second on the team with 42 three-point baskets and is third on the team with 41 assists.
Penn will play its first traditional Ivy League weekend this Friday and Saturday. The Quakers are in New England where they will face Brown (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Yale (Saturday at 7 p.m.).
