#22 Wrestling Completes Mat Town Open; Miller Wins Individual Title

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The #22 University of Pennsylvania wrestling team sent six wrestlers to the Mat Town Open on Sunday, with junior Ryan Miller leaving with some hardware.

Three Quakers placed in the top three of their weight classes to highlight Penn's performance in Lock Haven. Miller won the individual title at 133 to account for his first tournament victory of the year. Martin Cosgrove landed second at 197, while Zach Delsanter wrestled back to a third-place finish at 285 to even out Penn's place winners.

Miller went 4-0 on the day, starting his title quest in the round of 16, where he recorded a takedown and rode out time against Tyler Ferrara (Spartan Combat RTC) to win by decision, 10-4. Miller breezed through the quarterfinal round, tallying three takedowns over Buffalo's Cole French to grab the match by major decision, 13-2. The semifinals went in a similar fashion for Miller as he recorded three takedowns over Army's Conor Collins to bag another win by major decision, 13-2, and secure his spot in the finals. Miller finished his day with an individual title win at 133 after taking down Big Ten opponent Jager Eisch (Minnesota) to win by decision, 5-0.

First-year Cosgrove opened his route to the first-place battle with a 5-4 win by decision over Lehigh's Jack Davis. The freshman scored a late takedown against the Mountain Hawk to advance to the quarterfinals, where he pinned Army Prep's Reid Schroeder in 40 seconds. In his final win of the open, Cosgrove acted fast, scoring eight points over Virginia's Steven Burrell in the first. Cosgrove added four more takedowns to the scoreboard throughout the second and third periods to tech fall Burrell 21-5.

Delsanter picked up three wins en route to his third-place finish, opening the tournament with a win by decision over Logan Shephard (Bucknell Unattached), 4-2, thanks to a late takedown. Delsanter kept his momentum in the quarterfinals, scoring five early points to lead Drexel's Shane Whitney after two minutes. Delsanter added five more points to his lead in the second before taking down Whitney two more times in the third to win by major decision, 13-4. The third place bout went down to the wire for Delsanter as the match was tied at one after two periods. The freshman prevailed, scoring the sole takedown of the contest against Rutger's Kyle Epperly to secure his top-three finish by decision, 4-3.
