01BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The #20 University of Pennsylvania wrestling team almost completed the comeback over #17 Lehigh on the road on Friday night but eventually fell 24-14 in its EIWA opener.
Max Gallagher (125), #24
Lucas Revano (157), #7
Nick Incontrera (174), and #17
Maximus Hale (184) won their matches against the Mountain Hawks to account for Penn's 14 points in the dual.
Gallagher won his second straight dual of the season with a sudden victory scramble over Lehigh's Sheldon Seymour. After a quiet first with both grapplers looking to get on the board, Gallagher and Seymour recorded an escape in the second and third to force overtime with a 1-1 score. Gallagher was locked in during the extra period, getting a takedown halfway through to win by decision, 4-1.
#24 Revano continues to stay hot in duals, winning his third straight dual since starting at 157. The senior hit the gas quickly, tallying an early takedown, then another to lead 6-1 shortly into the period. #23 Max Brignola (Lehigh) did not go down easy, trailing 7-5 to end the first. Revano found his footing again, allowing his opponent to escape one final time before downing the #23 wrestler in the country by decision, 8-6.
Newly top-10 ranked Incontrera continued his perfect streak in duals, moving 4-0 on the year with the win tonight. The #7 junior was fierce in his match against Connor Herceg, taking down the Mountain Hawk to lead 3-0 and then getting the pin to win the bout by fall in 2:36.
Penn's final win of the meet came from red-hot #17 Hale, who also moved into 4-0 in duals from a win over Jack Wilt (Lehigh). The junior took down his opponent in the first and escaped from Wilt in the second, which proved to be enough to get the win by decision, 4-0, to grab the Quakers' last three points against Lehigh.
