Wrestling Names 2023-24 Captains

PHILADELPHIA – With the start of the new season right around the corner, the University of Pennsylvania wrestling is ready to announce its leadership for the coming year. CJ Composto, Nick Incontrera, and Lucas Revano will serve as captains for the 2023-24 season.

"CJ, Nick, and Lucas have earned leadership roles with the team," said head wrestling coach Roger Reina. "Each brings unique qualities and strengths, and together, they have the opportunity to make a major impact on our season."

Composto missed the 2022-23 season but made an impact for Penn the last time he hit the mat during the 2021-22 season. Composto ended his sophomore campaign, becoming an All-American after going undefeated in EIWA (9-0) and Ivy action (5-0). The junior placed eighth at the 2022 NCAA Championships, defeating No. 5 seed Andrew Alirez of Northern Colorado in the second round, then beating Olympian Stephan Micic of Michigan. Composto also earned the title of Ivy League Rookie of the Year, the first for the Quakers since the 2011 season.

"It is an honor to be named a captain for this season," Composto expressed. "I am looking forward to growing as a leader through this experience. I hope I can be a good role model that guys can look up to and learn from."

Incontrera posted a 17-6 record during the 2022-23 season, tallying a 7-2 record in EIWA competition. The junior grabbed seven ranked wins last year, including victories over No. 6 Mickey O'Malley of Drexel and No. 18 Ben Pasiuk from Army. The Flemington, N.J., native placed sixth overall at the 119th EIWA Championships to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships to end his sophomore campaign.

"To me, being a captain means continuing to set the standard of excellence of Penn wrestling and elevating team members to surpass our team goals," Incontrera said.

Revano ended his junior year a three-time EIWA place winner while qualifying for the NCAA Championships. The senior grabbed EIWA wins over Army, Lehigh, Brown, Harvard, and American last year. Revano placed seventh at the 119th EIWA Championships before making the trip to Tulsa for Nationals to end his 2022-23 campaign.

"It means a lot to be a captain for this team and to be a part of the long list of captains for Penn wrestling," said Revano. "This team is really special. I'm excited for this year to begin."

Composto, Incontrera, Revano, and the rest of the Quakers open the 2023-24 season at the Journeyman Collegiate Classic on Nov. 12 in Bethlehem, Pa.
