How it Happened
Penn has shown strong play at home so far this season, and this match was no exception. The Quakers improved to 4-0-1 at Penn Park, scoring two goals in the first 15 minutes and adding another in the second for their fifth shutout victory of the year.
The Quakers got on the board early in the match, with Ferraro notching her first collegiate tally. She finished off a strike from Lusher that was pushed aside by Iona goalkeeper Savannah Rogers; Lucas was in the right place at the right time for the rebound score in the 12th minute.
Just two minutes later, Penn would get on the board again after capitalizing off a corner kick. Rogers was initially able to punch away the corner kick attempt, but a scramble at the goal line allowed for Kenton to find the back of the net. It was her first goal since October 18, 2021.
The Quakers went into the half with a solid 2-0 lead, outshooting the Gaels 15-1 in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, Penn got two good looks around the hour mark but Rogers was able to make an outstretched save on a strike from Lusher.
However, about 15 minutes later Lucas fired a strike from distance that Rogers had no chance of stopping. The ball rocketed inside the far post to seal the deal in the 3-0 victory.
