PHILADELPHIA – Three members of the University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team earned All-America honors on Thursday afternoon, announced by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA).
The announcement precedes this weekend's NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship semifinals and title game at Lincoln Financial Field.
Notably, senior
Sam Handley establishes himself as a consensus first-team All-American, earning the honors from USA Lacrosse Magazine, Inside Lacrosse and now the USILA. This is the second consecutive season Handley was honored by all three major publications. For the first time ever, Bond was also tabbed a consensus All-American for the 2023 season after earning honorable-mention laurels from the USILA.
In addition, senior
BJ Farrare joins Bond on the honorable-mention list.
Handley completed another special season in his final campaign wearing the Red and Blue. He led the Quakers with a team-high 55 points, 30 goals and 24 assists, while registering three game-winning goals. Handley concluded his career with the fourth-most points in program history (194), the fifth-most assists (90) and the sixth-most goals (104). The three-time unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection was named a semifinalist for the Tewaaraton Award this year and was drafted fourth overall in the PLL Draft by Chrome Lacrosse Club earlier this month.
Finishing his career as one of the most prominent SSDMs in program history, Bond had another special season for the Quakers, finding success on both sides of the ball. Like Handley, this is his third All-America nod of the postseason. Bond finished the year tied for second on the team with 33 ground balls, adding seven caused turnovers. The first-team All-Ivy selection scored a goal against Duke in the home opener and in the classroom, represented Penn on the Academic All-Ivy team. Bond was taken by Archers Lacrosse Club with the 21st overall selection in the PLL Draft earlier this month.
Farrare closes the book on his Penn career after another strong season, taking home first-team All-Ivy honors after finishing the year tied for second on the team with eight caused turnovers and in ground balls with 33. He made an appearance in all 13 games for the Quakers in 2023, closing his college career with 142 GBs and 51 CTs. The Owings Mills, Md. native signed a professional contract with Redwoods Lacrosse Club of the PLL earlier this week.
Tying for second place in the Ivy League standings, Penn closed the year with a 7-6 overall record, going 4-2 in conference play. The Quakers earned another berth into the Ivy League Tournament, falling to eventual champion Princeton in the semifinal round, 9-8.
