PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team returns to Ivy League play with a pair of matches over the weekend. The Quakers will make the trip to Ithaca on Firday for a 2 p.m. first serve at Cornell. The weekend will close out with a 1 p.m. first serve against Columbia at the Hamlin Tennis Center. Pending the weather on Sunday, the match will move inside to the Hecht Tennis Center.
Penn will look for its second win over the Cornell in 2023 on Friday afternoon as the Quakers defeated the Big Red 4-1 in the seventh-place match of the 2023 ECAC Women's Tennis Indoor Championships back on February 12.

The Quakers are coming off their Ivy opener against Princeton. Penn managed just a singles win by
Gavriella Smith in a 4-1 loss to the Tigers.
Sabine Rutlauka saw her 11-match win streak come to an end as she was forced to retire with a 1-1 score in the opening set.
Iris Gallo won the first set but was trailing 5-3 in the second when her match was abandoned, and
Maya Urata had forced a third set and was leading it, 2-1, but her match also was abandoned as Princeton had clinched the victory.
Previewing the opponents
Cornell and Columbia opened Ivy League play against each other. The Lions earned the Ivy opening victory, 5-2. The Lions opened the dual with a sweep for the doubles point and took a 2-0 lead as they started singles play with a win at #6. Cornell evened the match with a pair of two-set victories at #2 and #1 singles. Columbia closed out the match with singles wins at #3, #4, and #5 to earn the 5-2 victory.
Cornell is led by Lan Mi at #1 singles with a 12-2 record. The Big Red have used a variety of doubles partners but the duo of Lauren Stien and Emma Baker have been paired the most and post a 5-3 record at #1 doubles.
Columbia is led by a trio with double-digit wins, Clarine Lerby (12), Winta Tewolde (11), and Sophia Wang (10). In doubles play, Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang lead the team with a 10-3 overall record.
