Lightweight Men Sweep Callow Cup, 1919 Trophy at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – In its final races before the EARC Sprints, the University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight crew won back both the Callow Cup and the 1919 Trophy Saturday on the Severn River.
 
The Quakers won the Varsity Eights race to collect the Callow Cup for the first time since 2019 and the sixth time since 2013. Penn also won the 2V8 on Saturday which gave them the 1919 Trophy.

Varsity Eights (Callow Cup)
Penn's seventh-ranked boat clocked 5:44.5 across the Severn's 2,000-meter course and was able to defeat sixth-ranked Navy (5:46.3) by nearly two seconds. This was the second race of the day and also secured the 1919 Trophy for the Quakers.
 
Second Varsity Eights
In the first race of the day, fifth-ranked Penn got a leg up on the 1919 Trophy standings by defeating No. 7 Navy by more than six seconds. The Quakers were timed in 5:53.3 while the Midshipmen finished in 5:59.7.
 
Third Varsity Eights
This was a four-boat race as Navy put three Eights out against Penn's one. The Midshipmen's 3V8 was victorious, clocking 6:03.0, while their 4V8 was second in 6:05.3. Penn's 3V8 was third, in 6:07.7, with Navy's 5V8 fourth in the race in 6:23.6.
