ITHACA, N.Y – The University of Pennsylvania softball team dropped both games of a Friday doubleheader at Cornell. The Quakers tied game one at 3-3 on
Bella Fiorentino two-run shot but ultimately fell 4-3. A pair of two-run innings for the Big Red lead the home team to a doubleheader sweep.
FINAL: Cornell 4, Penn 3
Cornell used a two-run homer in the first and an RBI fielder's choice in the second to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Alyssa Pope continued to get on base as she extended her on base streak to four games with a lead off base hit to open the third followed by a one-out base hit by
Madison Bauerle.
Brianna Brown reached on an error by the pitcher that allowed Pope to score cutting into Cornell's lead.
The Quakers tied the game in the sixth inning as
Dana Anderson was hit by a pitch putting the lead runner on.
Bella Fiorentino helped out her own cause as she tied the game 3-3 with a two-run homer to right center.
The Big Red responded quickly with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead.
Penn looked to rally in the seventh as
Katie Reagan opened with a base hit but Cornell got three straight outs to close the game.
FINAL: Cornell 4, Penn 1
Cornell scored all the runs it needed in the second inning off a SAC fly and an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead after two.
A bases loaded RBI hit and an RBI bases loaded walk doubled the Big Red lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Penn pushed a run across the plate in the top of the seventh with a bases loaded walk of its own as Reagan got the RBI.

- With a hit in game one, Alyssa Pope extended her hit streak to five games.
- Brown needs one more stolen base for the single season stolen base record.
