Handley Tabbed as Semifinalist For Tewaaraton Award

PHILADELPHIA – For the second consecutive year, Penn men's lacrosse senior middie Sam Handley was named one of 25 semifinalists for the coveted Tewaaraton Award, announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation on Thursday afternoon.
 
The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are comprised of premier college coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
 
From the group of 25 nominees, five finalists will be selected from the groups. Those will be announced on May 11, following the conclusion of the regular season.
 
Handley is one of three 2022 Tewaaraton finalists who are on the semifinal list in 2023, along with Virginia's Connor Shellenberger and Notre Dame's Pat Kavanagh, .
 
The Portland, Ore. native has been an essential cog of the Quakers' offensive success in 2023, leading the team in points (37) and assists (19), while ranking second in goals (18). Of those, Handley has scored two game-winning goals with OT daggers against Saint Joseph's and Princeton. He has scored at least one point in 43 consecutive games for Penn, the fourth-longest active streak in the nation. In four seasons, Handley continues to make his mark in the Penn record book, tallying 92 career goals and 84 assists for 176 points in his 43 games played.
 
The 2023 Tewaaraton Watch Lists were first unveiled Feb. 10, with additions announced March 9 and March 30. The five men's and five women's finalists will be announced May 11 and will be invited to the Tewaaraton Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C., on June 1.
