Men's Basketball Hands Out Team Awards at Year-End Banquet

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team announced its yearly award winners at the team's annual banquet, which took place at The Palestra on Sunday, April 16.

Junior guard Jordan Dingle was named recipient of the Arthur Kiefaber Most Valuable Player Award for the second straight year. He recently became the first player in program history to be named ECAC Player of the Year, the eighth to earn Big 5 Player of the Year, and the 15th voted by the Ancient Eight coaches as Ivy League Player of the Year. In addition, Dingle was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection for the second straight year, was named first-team All-ECAC and All-Big 5, and received all-district recognition from both the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA). Already eighth on Penn's all-time scoring list with a season still to play, Dingle had another record-shattering season offensively. In Big 5 play, the junior broke a record that had stood since 1966-67 as he scored 120 points across the Quakers' four city series games. Overall, Dingle scored 656 points in 28 games this season, a 23.4 scoring average that was second nationally behind only Detroit Mercy's Antoine Davis (28.2 ppg). Dingle's 656 points are the second-most in a season in program history, behind Ernie Beck's 673 in 1952-53. Dingle had 22 games with 20 or more points this season—second behind Beck, who had 25 such games in 1952-53—and his streak of double-figure scoring games is at 37 dating back to the 2021-22 season, the fifth-longest streak in program history. This season, Dingle became the seventh player in program history to reach double digits in scoring in every game in which he played across an entire season; the last player to do it was Keven McDonald in 1977-78.

Senior forward Lucas Monroe was honored as this year's Bus McDonald Award winner as the program's Most Inspirational Player. One of two players to appear in all 30 games, with 25 starts, Monroe led Penn with 179 rebounds (6.0 rpg), scored 147 points (4.9 ppg), and finished second on the team with 18 blocked shots. He also was third among Quakers with 62 assists and had 19 steals. Among Ivy League players, Monroe finished seventh overall in rebounds per game (6.0) and 10th in blocked shots per game (0.6) while in conference play he finished seventh in rebounds per game (6.1), seventh in FT percentage (.838), and 14th in blocked shots per game (0.6). Monroe finished the season with three double-figure scoring games, a team-high six double-digit rebound games and two double-doubles, and he led Penn in rebounds in a team-leading 10 games.

Freshmen Cam Thrower and Chris Ubochi were named co-recipients of the G. Fred DiBona Award as the team's top newcomers. Thrower saw time in 12 games this season, scoring 34 points and adding 10 rebounds and six assists. Ubochi was unable to see any game action this year due to eligibility issues but had a strong year practicing with the Quakers.

Penn also gave out the "Billy Basic Award" for the third time on Sunday. This year it was given to Andrew Laczkowski. The junior forward played in 19 games, scoring 44 points and pulling down 42 rebounds, 18 of them on the offensive end. He also had 12 assists, seven steals and three blocked shots, and led Penn in rebounds in one game.

Penn finished the year with a 17-12 overall record and took third place in the Ivy League standings at 9-5. The Quakers advanced to the Ivy League Tournament, losing in the semifinal round to eventual tournament champion Princeton.
