Softball Falls 7-0 to Saint Joseph's on Wednesday Afternoon

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team struggled on Wednesday afternoon against Saint Joseph's, managing just three hits as the Hawks came to Penn Park and walked away with a 7-0 victory.

FINAL: Saint Joseph's 7, Penn 0
The Hawks capitalized on a few early Penn errors to jump out to a 2-0 first-inning lead. After a one-out base hit to right, the next two batters advanced on errors as the second Penn error resulted in the visitors taking a 1-0 lead. The next batter hit a sac fly to center to bring home the second run of the inning. Bella Fiorentino got the final batter chasing to end the top of the first.

The Quakers looked to get things going in the bottom of the first inning as Brianna Brown walked and with her speed she advanced to third on a sac bunt off the bat of Danica Larwill. The inning ended on the next batter as Brown was doubled off third as Sammy Fenton's bunt was caught by the third baseman.

Katie Reagan got the first Quaker hit as she sent a one-out hit to the left center wall that bounced over for the ground-rule double.

Saint Joseph's added three more runs in the top of the fifth off a two-RBI double to center and a groundout that scored the runner from third. In the top of the seventh, the Hawks pulled off a double steal to score their seventh and final run of the game.

In addition to Reagans one-out ground-rule double, Dana Anderson sent a two-out double to center and Jillian Kuntze hit a base hit to left in the fifth.

QUAKER NOTEMEAL
  • Penn pitching struck out four batters, the most since striking out five Lehigh batters in the opening game of the doubleheader.
  • The offense was shut out in back-to-back games for the first time since they failed to score in both ends of a doubleheader against Creighton.
