PHILADELPHIA – After re-writing the team record books Sunday afternoon, sophomore
Ryan Dromboski of the University of Pennsylvania baseball team was named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honor, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Dromboski struck out 15 Princeton Tigers in 7.2 innings during Sunday's 5-2 Ivy Series-clinching victory, allowing no earned runs and yielding just two walks.
His performance broke the previous record of 14, most recently accomplished by
Joe Miller last May, also against Princeton.
The right-hander struck out one in the first, two in the second, four in the third, two each in the fourth and fifth, three in the sixth and one in the eighth. Eight Princeton hitters struck out at least once and two struck out at least twice, including the team's No. 1, 2, and 3 hitters.
Penn has won at least one Pitcher/Player/Rookie award in each of the last six weeks, the only Ancient Eight team to do so. Dromboski was also named to the Collegiate Baseball National Players of the Week
list.
The Quakers travel to Villanova on Wednesday before a trip east to Providence this weekend for a conference series with Brown as the team looks to remain firmly in the hunt for an Ivy League Tournament berth.
