Softball Shut Out in Series Opener by Princeton, 7-0

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team dropped its series opener against Princeton on Friday afternoon. The Tigers used a five-run first inning and cruised to a 7-0 victory. The Quakers rallied to load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to push any runs across the plate.

FINAL: Princeton 7, Penn 0
The Tigers came out of the gate swinging as they took a 5-0 lead after the first inning on four hits including three doubles. Princeton added a single run in the third inning on a bases loaded walk and then took a 7-0 lead on a solo shot to left.

After entering in the second inning, Kelly Zybura limited Princeton to just a pair of runs over the final six innings. In six innings of work, she allowed two runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out two.

The Quakers managed just one hit and four walks across the first six innings. Penn looked to make some noise in its final at bat loaded the bases with no outs on a Delaney Smith base hit to center, a walk by Katie Reagan, and Alyssa Pope reaching on an error.  After a strikeout for the first out, the Tigers induced a double play to end the game.
