Dingle Named ECAC Player of the Year, First-Team All-ECAC

PHILADELPHIA – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its Division 1 All-ECAC Teams and major award winners in men's basketball, and the University of Pennsylvania is represented by junior guard Jordan Dingle who was named the ECAC Player of the Year as well as first-team All-ECAC. This was Dingle's second time earning first-team All-ECAC, and he is the first player in program history to be named Player of the Year.

The ECAC honors add to Dingle's list of postseason awards this season. He recently became just the 15th player in program history to be named the Ivy League Player of the Year in addition to earning his second straight unanimous first-team All-Ivy recognition. Following that, he was named all-district by both the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA). Dingle also was named to the all-tournament team at #IvyMadness after he scored 19 points and matched a season/career high with six assists in a semifinal loss to Princeton.

Already eighth on Penn's all-time scoring list with a season still to play, Dingle had another record-shattering season offensively. The junior scored 656 points in 28 games this season, a 23.4 scoring average that is second nationally behind only Detroit Mercy's Antoine Davis (28.2 ppg). Dingle's 656 points are the second-most in a season in program history, behind Ernie Beck's 673 in 1952-53. Dingle had 22 games with 20 or more points this season—second behind Beck, who had 25 such games in 1952-53—and his streak of double-figure scoring games is at 37 dating back to last season, the fifth-longest streak in program history. This season, Dingle became the seventh player in program history to reach double digits in scoring in every game in which he played across an entire season; the last player to do it was Keven McDonald in 1977-78.

Dingle hit 77 three-point shots this season, good for sixth on Penn's single-season list, and his 143 made free throws are ninth on the Quakers' single-season list. He also led the team with 32 steals and was second with 63 assists this season.

In addition to naming Dingle its Player of the Year, the ECAC named Syracuse freshman Judah Mintz as its Rookie of the Year and Howard University head coach Kenny Blakeney as its Coach of the Year. Dingle is one of just two Ivy League players to earn All-ECAC honors, as Princeton senior Tosan Evbuomwan also was a first-team selection.

Penn finished the 2022-23 season with a 17-13 overall record and took third place in the Ivy League standings with a 9-5 mark, earning the third seed in the Ivy League Tournament where the Quakers fell in the semifinal round to the eventual champion Tigers, 77-70.
