Heavies Fall in Burk Cup Race, Win 3V8 Over Northeastern

PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight crew fell to Northeastern by three seconds in the race for the Burk Cup on Sunday, the Huskies taking the trophy home for the fifth straight time. The Quakers did earn a win in the Third Varsity Eights to highlight the Red and Blue's racing on Princeton's Lake Carnegie course.

Penn clocked 5:54.86 in the Burk Cup (Varsity Eights) race, which started Sunday's racing on Lake Carnegie. That was slightly less than three seconds behind Northeastern, which covered the course in 5:51.95.
 
The Second Varsity Eights race came right down to the wire, but the Huskies raced to a 6:02.19 finish to place just ahead of Penn's 6:03.42.
 
Penn's win came in the Third Varsity Eights race, the Quakers clocking 6:05.41 to finish more than two seconds ahead of NU (6:07.99).
 
Northeastern closed out the day's racing with a win in the Fourth Varsity Eights race, cruising to a 13-second victory. The Huskies' time was 6:14.23 while the Quakers clocked 6:27.08.
 
Up Next
Penn is back in action in two weeks, hosting Princeton and Columbia on Saturday, April 8. The Varsity Eight will row the Tigers and Lions for the Childs Cup that day.
