PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team earned its tenth win of the season with a 6-1 victory over the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday at the Hecht Tennis Center. The Quakers improved to 10-4 on the season and remain a perfect 8-0 at home. This match marked the final non-conference match of the regular season as Ivy League play opens next weekend against Princeton.
Penn opened the match earning the doubles point with a pair of identical 6-2 victories.
Maya Urata and
Iris Gallo improved to 7-2 overall at #2 doubles.
Sabine Rutlauka and
Eileen Wang earned their fourth doubles win as a duo with a 6-2 win to clinch the doubles point for the home team.
Gavriella Smith and
Juliana Munhoz were leading 4-3 in their doubles match but did not finish as the Quakers clinched the doubles point at #1 doubles.
Rutlauka remains perfect at #1 singles as she took down her opponent from FDU in straight sets allowing just one point.
Iris Gallo lost the opening set and was leading 3-0 when her opponent defaulted the match to put the Quakers up 3-0. The match was clinched at #5 singles by Urata as she won 6-0 and 6-2 giving Penn a 4-0 lead.
Saige Roshkoff's two-set victory at #6 singles put her team up 5-0. The lone FDU point on the day came at #2 singles. The Quakers closed out the match with a two-set victory by Smith at #3 singles to secure the 6-1 Quaker win.
