#23 WLAX Returns To Ivy Play At Harvard Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 23 University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse team conclude a five-game road trip on Saturday, returning to Ivy League competition with a bout at Harvard.

SERIES AGAINST HARVARD
*The Quakers are meeting the Crimson for the 50th time in program history, as Penn holds a 31-18 lead in the all-time series.
 
*Penn has won 22 of the last 23 meetings, falling for the first time last season (9-8) for the first time since 2000.
 
*At Jordan Field, the Quakers hold a 13-7 record, winning the last 10 games in Cambridge.
 
*In a series that dates to 1975, Penn averages 9.33 goals per game, totaling 457 through 49 games.
 
LAST TIME WE MET
*The Crimson earned their first win against Penn since 2000 last year at Franklin Field, edging out a tight game, 9-8.
 
*It was the Ivy League opener for both teams on March 5.
 
*Niki Miles led the team with four points, all on assists, while also posting a game-high four caused turnovers and team-high three ground balls.
 
*Kennon Moon and Kaitlyn Cumiskey each had two goals.
 
*Cumiskey and Anna Brandt both collected three draws, as Penn edged out the draw game, 11-10.
 
*Kelly Van Hoesen tended the net for the full 60 minutes, making 12 saves.
 
*Harvard was led by Riley Campbell with five points on four goals and an assist.
 
ABOUT THE CRIMSON
*Harvard enters the game with a 2-4 overall record, 0-1 in league play.
 
*The season kicked off with four straight losses to then-No. 17 Michigan (17-10), Georgetown (10-9), Brown (11-6), and Vermont (12-7). Since then, they have collected back-to-back victories over Holy Cross (15-12) and Coastal Carolina (12-10), both on the road.
 
*Averaging just over 9.8 goals per game this year, the Crimson are led by Callie Hem and Campbell with a combined 39 points. Hem has 20 off 14 goals and six assists, while Campbell paces the team with 16 goals and three assists for 19 points.
 
*Back in the net, Harvard has roughly split time with Lizzie Francioli starting five games. Francioli has a 12.11 goals-against average, while Chloe Provenzano has an 11.84. The two have totaled 45 saves.
 
PENN'S LAST TIME OUT
*The Quakers returned from the program's first trip to the Sunshine State last weekend, falling to then-No. 22 Jacksonville in a tight 12-11 battle.
 
*Penn overcame a six-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to get within one goal in the final two minutes before dropping the close decision.
 
*The Quakers outshot the Dolphins, 31-29, with 22 going on target.
 
*The draw game played in favor of the Quakers, 16-10, as Moon secured a career-high 11, tying for the second most in program history. She matched former teammate, Zoe Belodeau, who pulled in 11 in 2018 against Rutgers.
 
*Off the 11 goals, five were on free-position attempts, going 5-for-9 at the eight meter.
 
*Miles led the team in points with three, scoring twice and adding an assist.
 
*Penn also led the ground ball game, 24-20, paced by senior Izzy Rohr with four while sophomore Natasha Gorriaran and junior Sophie Davis had three each.
 
*Van Hoesen made eight saves through 60 minutes of work in the net.
 
QUAKER NOTES
*A typical Penn lacrosse schedule, the team is lined up for a competitive 2023 campaign that includes seven top-25 opponents according to the IWLCA preseason ranking. They have already battled then-No. 16 Johns Hopkins, then-No. 8, and then-No. 22 Jacksonville. The season still has No. 8 Florida on the road, while hosting No. 11 Maryland, No. 16 Yale, and No. 14 Princeton.
 
*Penn returned nine of its top 10 scorers from last season, six of whom had 20-plus points led by senior Miles with 34 (15 goals, 19 assists).
 
*The freshman presence is already being felt on the team, as Penn is being led in points through five games by Patricia Columbia-Walsh with 14 points. Her first collegiate game against La Salle saw her score twice with three assists, and she has contributed points in every game since. She currently leads the Ivy League and ranks 28th in the nation with 2.00 assists per game.
 
*Miles leads the squad with 12 goals so far this year, while Brandt sits 10th in Division I in free-position goals per game with 1.00.
 
*A stout defensive third for the Quakers is ranked in several categories in the nation. Penn ranks 17th in caused turnovers per game (10.20), third in ground balls per game (21.20), and 19th in scoring defense (9.40 goals allowed).
 
*On the individual side, Miles ranks 18th in the nation in caused turnovers per game (2.00) while senior Izzy Rohr is close behind in 33rd with 1.80. Back between the pipes, Van Hoesen sits 19th in the country and second in the league in goals-against average (9.20).
 
*Head coach Karin Corbett is in her 24th season at the helm, owning 243 of the program's 396 wins.
