PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team improved to 7-2 on the season with a second straight 7-0 win over a fellow Philadelphia school. The Quakers hosted their 33rd Street neighbor and sent them back home with a loss.
Gavriella Smith and
Juliana Munhoz earned the first doubles win as their opponent defaulted. Drexel earned its only win of the day with a 6-4 doubles win by Lorie Lemongo and Renata Lombera over
Sabine Rutlauka and
Eileen Wang. A 6-4 win by
Maya Urata and
Iris Gallo gave the Quakers the doubles point.
Gallo earned the first singles win of the day and gave Penn a 2-0 lead as her opponent defaulted. Munhoz and Rutlauka both won their singles matches to clinch the match for Penn. Urata, Wang and Smith all picked up singles wins in straight sets giving the Quakers a second straight 7-0 victory.
