#18 Wrestling Hosts American for Senior Day on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA – The 18th-ranked University of Pennsylvania Wrestling team will host its regular season finale on Sunday at The Palestra against American University. Prior to the dual against the Eagles, Penn will honor its 13 seniors. The dual is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and the senior day recognition will start at 12:40 p.m.
 
Penn is set to honor ten student-athletes and three student managers on Sunday. Anthony Artalona, Carmen Ferrante, Ben Goldin, Nate Hoaglund, Mikey Kistler, Zakaria Loudini, Gabe Miller, Jesse Quatse, Jeremy Ridge, Doug Zapf, Kevin Li, Daulton Ho, and Lily Virbitsky will all be honored as the class of 2023.

Scouting the opponent
American is coming off a pair of home dual losses to Lock Haven and Air Force. The Eagles lost 24-9 as they won two bouts against Lock Haven but all eight losses were decided by five or fewer points. American earned wins at 157 and 197. In their dual against Air Force, the Eagles won three bouts at 141, 165, and 197 but Air Force took the dual 28-13.
 
Quaker Notemeal
* For the second straight season, head coach Roger Reina has named Carmen FerranteDoug Zapf, and Ben Goldin as captains for the #TheMovement.  
* Nine Quakers continue to earn national recognition. Ryan Miller (125), Michael Colaiocco (133), Anthony Artalona (149), Doug Zapf (157), Lucas Revano (165), Nick Incontrera (174), Maximus Hale (184), Cole Urbas (197), and Ben Goldin (285) all earned national rankings.
* Penn went 2-0 on the weekend, earning victories over Princeton and Drexel. The weekend began with a hard-fought comeback victory over the Tigers at The Palestra on Friday night. The Quakers erased a 15-9 deficit with a pair of decision wins and a major decision over the final three bouts to take a 19-15 victory. For the second straight season, Carmen Ferrante posted a big win for Penn against Princeton as he used a major decision over Chris Martino to give Penn a 16-15 advantage, and #10 Doug Zapf closed out the dual with a 10-4 decision over Marshall Keller. On Sunday, Penn made the quick trip up 33rd Street to take on Drexel and wasted no time earning a victory as the Quakers jumped out to a 19-0 lead through the first half of the dual. Over the opening five bouts, Penn secured three bonus-point wins at 125, 133, and 149. #13 Nick Incontrera took down #5 Mickey O'Malley by using an escape in the third period and building up his riding time to earn a 2-0 decision. Penn won the match 28-6.
* Penn will be well represented in the EIWA Hall of Fame Class of 2023 as Clint Mater C'97 W'97 and Dr. Rick Springman EAS'02 Gr'09 will be inducted into the EIWA Hall of Fame. Tickets for the 119th EIWA Championships are on sale now and can be purchased here
