Penn Football Legend Watson Wins Super Bowl with Kansas City Chiefs

Program’s all-time leading receiver becomes first Penn alum to dress, play and win a Super Bowl

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania football team's all-time leading receiver is now a two-time Super Bowl champion.

Justin Watson W'18 became the first Penn alum to dress and play in a Super Bowl on Sunday night as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-35, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. He caught two passes from Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes for 18 yards, both of them going for first downs as the Chiefs won their second title in four seasons.

Watson also earned a Super Bowl ring with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following their Super Bowl LV victory over the Chiefs in 2021, but was left off the active roster for that contest. Former Penn running back Jim Finn W'99 also won a Super Bowl ring—with the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII—but did not dress for the game.

Watson is the Quakers' all-time leading receiver in receptions (286), yards (3,777), receiving touchdowns (33) and all-purpose yards (4,116). He holds Penn's single-season records for receptions (89) and receiving yards (1,115) in 2016 and receiving touchdowns (14) in 2017.

Watson won Ivy League titles with Penn in 2015 and 2016 and was a two-time finalist for the STATS FCS Walter Payton Award (2016, 2017) as well as a three-time finalist for Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year (2015, 2016, 2017).

The fifth-year pro who hails from Bridgeville, Pa. played all 17 games during the regular season for the Chiefs this season, making a start in five of them. Watson finished the year with 15 catches for 315 yards and two touchdowns.
