Men’s Soccer Lands Four on USC All-Northeast Region Teams

PHILADELPHIA – Four student-athletes from the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team landed spots on the United Soccer Coaches (USC) All-Northeast Region first and second teams.

Leo Burney garnered USC All-Northeast Region first team, while Michael Hewes, Nick Christoffersen, and Stas Korzeniowski earned USC All-Northeast Region second team honors.

Burney, who is now eligible for All-America honors, was named to the All-Ivy first team this season. The junior played in all 16 games this year, docking a team-high 1,440 minutes. The defender led a fierce Penn backend that allowed only 12 goals and 62 shots on net. Burney was also a CSC All-District select for his academic performance during the season.

Hewes had a breakout season, earning a spot on the All-Ivy first team. The senior led the offense with eight goals this year, which was fourth-most in the conference. Hewes tallied a hattrick at then ranked #14 Penn State, scoring all three goals in Penn's 3-0 victory. The West Chester, Pa., native was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week twice during the regular season.

Christoffersen was a force in the net for the Quakers this season, getting All-Ivy first team and All-Ivy academic nods. The senior played the full 90 minutes in all 15 games he started in, saving 43 shots faced on goal. Christoffersen tallied seven shutouts this year, moving into second all-time with 16 to end his Penn career. The goalkeeper allowed only ten goals, holding a 0.67 goals-against-average and 0.811 save percentage to end the regular season. Christoffersen also earned CSC All-District for his performance off the field this season.

Korzeniowski was on fire offensively this year, leading the Quakers in points (20) and assists (8). The junior, who garnered Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week twice this year, was named to the All-Ivy second team during the postseason. Korzeniowski earned Penn's third CSC All-District selection for excelling in the classroom to go along with his hard work on the field.
