#20 Wrestling Wins Midlands Championships; Seven Quakers Place Individually

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – For the first time in program history, the #20 University of Pennsylvania wrestling team captured the team title at the Midlands Championships on Saturday night.

#8 Michael Colaiocco (133), #11 Nick Incontrera (174), #13 CJ Composto (141), #29 Maximus Hale (184), Lucas Revano (157), John Stout (285), and Cole Urbas (197) all placed in the top ten en route to Penn's title. Composto and Hale led the Quakers with second-place finishes, while Incontrera, Revano, and Urbas grabbed third. Colaiocco placed fourth, and Stout landed eighth to round out the Quakers in the top ten of their weight classes.

#29 Hale secured his spot in the 184 finals with a ranked win over #14 James Conway (Franklin & Marshall). The junior recorded four points in the first while holding the Diplomat to only two points from escapes to grab the win by decision, 4-2, to advance to the finals for the first time in his career.

Junior Incontrera found his footing in the 174 consolation bracket, winning the wrestleback semifinal match from a fall in 6:07 over Brody Conley (West Virginia). Incontrera took down the Mountaineer two times, with one coming from a five-point third period that advanced Incontrera to the third place bout. Incontrera carried his momentum into his final match at Midlands, scoring four points in the third over Max Maylor (Wisconsin) to grab third by decision, 5-1.

Revano had a solid second day at Midlands, beating out two ranked opponents in #11 Chase Saldate (Michigan State) and #22 DJ McGee (George Mason) in the third place contest. The senior took an early 9-4 lead against Spartan Saldate to win by decision, 10-6, then rolled through Rider's Colton Washleski with a win by major decision, 14-3, to push his way to the third place match. Revano's last win against McGee was his closest of the day, but he easily prevailed. The New Jersey native took down the Patriot in the first and then claimed the contest by decision, 4-2, to place at Midlands for the first time in his career.

Urbas rolled through the consolation bracket today, picking up four wins. The senior grabbed a ranked 4-0 win by decision in the consolation semifinal round against #21 Andy Smith (Virginia Tech). Urbas continued to hold strong in his final battle of the tournament, fighting till the last second against Lehigh's JT Davis to take the match and third place by decision, 1-0.

#8 Colaiocco's short trek to the third-place matchup was through #5 Sam Latona of Virginia Tech. The senior took a late first-period lead from a takedown that he carried till the third. The Hokie tried to overcome his deficit with a takedown in the third, but Colaiocco held strong, tallying two points from escapes to take his last win at Midlands by decision, 5-4, and advance to the third place bout.
