GREENSBORO, N.C. – Matthew Fallon successfully completed his first day of competition at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships Friday evening at the Greensboro Aquatics Center.

Fallon swam a 59.92 to take fifth place in the A-Final of the 100-meter breaststroke, finishing just behind fourth-place Josh Matheny (59.85), third-place Nic Fink (59.79), Michael Andrew in second place (59.52) and Denis Petrashov, who took the win with a time of 59.46.

The Warren, N.J. native will swim his signature event on Saturday, the 200-meter breaststroke. Fallon has the top seed time heading into the morning heat session (2:07.71), which earned him a national title at U.S. Championships last summer and a bronze medal at World Championships in Japan.
