How It Happened
Penn's defense did a great job keeping Navy in check in the early goings of the contest, holding the Mids to a three-and-out on their first drive and then forcing a turnover on downs on a goal-line stand with 9:38 remaining in the frame.
Â
After a three-and-out for the Penn offense, Navy QB Brandon Atwood threw an interception into the arms of
Josh Johnson to give the ball back to the offensive side.
Â
The Mids used the end of the first quarter to bridge into the start of the second to come away with their first scoring drive and take a 7-0 lead. Following a successful onside kick, Navy scored again 51 seconds later to lead 13-0 at the half.
Â
Navy scored 21 unanswered points to take a 33-0 edge with 7:44 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Â
The Quakers got on the board with 1:24 left in the final stanza, an eight-yard pass from
Ty Scherer to
Kyle Zeitlian, cutting the score down to 33-7.
