Women's Soccer Ready for Final Road Match of the Year at Harvard

PHILADELPHIA- The University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team will travel for its final away match of the season on Saturday, as the Quakers take on Ivy League competitor Harvard. After a 1-1 draw with Dartmouth last weekend, the Quakers will kick off with the Crimson at 4 p.m. in Cambridge.

This Series With Harvard
Saturday's meeting will be the 32nd between the Quakers and the Crimson, as Harvard holds a 20-7-4 record in the series. The last matchup between these Ivy opponents resulted in a in a 1-1 draw at Rhodes Field. The last victory for the Quakers came in 2017, a 1-0 win in Cambridge. Since the 2017 season, the Quakers are 1-2-2 against the Crimson, including a 2OT 0-0 tie in 2018. Penn is 4-8-3 at home and 3-12-1 on the road against Harvard all-time. The longest winning streak for the Quakers spanned two seasons a 1-0 victory in 2007 and a 2-0 shutout in 2008.

 *At 5-6-3, Penn has surpassed its win total from last season when the Quakers went 3-6-7 and set a program mark for ties in a season.

 *The Quakers have had seven different goal scorers this season with Mallory LucasAbbey CookLauren Teuschl and Megan Lusher each tallying two.

 *Freshman Magali Capdevila netted her first career collegiate goal in the 15th minute against Dartmouth last Saturday, in a 1-1 draw.

*Only two players have started all 14 matches for the Quakers, senior goalkeeper Laurence Gladu and Teuschl in the midfield.

*Lusher, a junior transfer from the University of Utah, ranks eighth in the Ivy League with 31 shots (2.21 per match), and is seventh in shots on goal with 13 (0.93 per match).

*So far this season, Gladu—a two-time honorable mention All-Ivy pick (2021-22)—has 53 saves while allowing just 11 goals. She has a 79-percent save percentage so far this season.

*Gladu ranks fourth in the Ivy League with a .786 goals against average and fourth in saves with 53.

*Gladu also holds the fourth spot in shutouts per game with five (.357 percentage) and ranks third in saves per game with 3.79.

*The Quakers are averaging 13 shots per game, compared to their opponents' 10.4.

*The Quakers' season high for goals this year has been three, a 3-0 shutout victory against Iona; their most since September 11th of 2022, a 3-0 win against Stony Brook. Freshman Taylor Ferraro, senior Paige Kenton and sophomore Lucas were the scorers in the match.

* Teuschl—a 2021 second-team All-Ivy recipient—was one of 10 players to play in all 16 games for Penn including 15 starts. Teuschl made 13 starts and recorded 13 shots on goal and was one of three players with multiple goals on the season in 2022.

*Lucas holds the team lead for assists with two; in 14 games played and four starts.

*Gladu leads the team in minutes played with 1,260 in net, Teuschl is second on the team with 1,160.  

*Senior Ginger Fontenot—a 2022 second-team All-Ivy recipient—saw the fourth-most minutes as she started all 15 matches in which she played and anchored a back line that limited opponents to one or fewer goals in 12 matches. This season Fontenot has helped the Quakers earn five shutout victories.
