Padilla Named USBWA National Player of the Week

PHILADELPHIA - The U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) announced their weekly awards on Tuesday afternoon, naming senior captain Kayla Padilla of the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team the Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Week.

This is the second national recognition Padilla has earned from the USBWA, earning National Freshman of the Week back on December 10, 2019.

Padilla is coming off back-to-back 20-plus performances this past weekend, helping the Quakers extend their win streak to nine games as well as remain the only unblemished record in Ivy League play with a 3-0 tally.

She started the weekend off with a game-high 27 points on 8-for-14 shooting and 8-for-8 at the line in a victory over Cornell. She added four rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block. The next day, Penn hosted Columbia with both teams riding long win streaks. Padilla continued her hot hand for 21 points off another eight field goals, while chipping in five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

For the season, she is averaging 16.1 points per game, the fourth best in the Ivy League. Leading the conference in minutes per game (35.9), she also ranks atop the Ivy League in assist/turnover ratio at 1.7, totaling 57 assists so far this year.

Padilla and the Quakers continue their 10-game homestand this week, hosting Hartford on Tuesday night for the final non-conference game of the season before battling Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon in The Palestra.
