The Series with Navy
Thursday's meeting between the Quakers and the Midshipmen will be the fifth match in series history. The series remains a draw as both teams have defeated each other twice on the road. In their previous matchup, the Quakers defeated the Midshipmen, 4-2 in Annapolis.
About Navy
Navy has opened the 2022 season at 3-2-2. On Sunday, the Midshipmen took their first road win against the FDU Knights. In the 70th minute, team captain Olivia Foster scored the game-winning goal to secure the 1-0 victory.
The Series with Stony Brook
Sunday's meeting between the Quakers and Seawolves will be the third match in series history. Penn holds the series, 2-0-0. Penn last played Stony Brook on September 20, 2000.
About Stony Brook
Stony Brook is 3-3 entering the weekend. Last week, the Seawolves opened September with a pair of lop-sided losses. They fell 5-1 at Cincinnati and then dropped a 4-2 decision to Providence. Prior to arriving to University City on Sunday, Stony Brook will take on Columbia on Thursday night in New York.
Quaker Notemeal
*2022 will mark the first season that the college soccer regular season will not feature overtime. The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved changes to the
overtime rules for men's and women's soccer.
*On Sunday, Penn earned its first victory of 2022 with a 2-1 win over Lehigh. This marked the first win under first-year head coach Dr. Turner.
Lauren Teuschl opened the scoring in the ninth minute and
Mallory Lucas put home the eventual game-winning goal in the 33rd minute for her first collegiate goal.
*Senior captains
Sizzy Lawton and
Peyton Raun lead the team with three points each. Lucas and Teuschl are tied for second on the team with two points each.
Miranda Farman rounds out the list with one point.
*For the 2022 season, Penn will play all home soccer matches before September 12 on Rhodes Field. Following that date, all Penn home soccer matches will be played at Penn Park.
*In addition to a completely new coaching staff, the 2022 roster features eight new faces: forwards
Clare Robke,
Anuli Okafor and
Kaia Chambers; midfielders
Sarah Sullivan and
Mallory Lucas; defenders
Chloe Skipper and
Rachel Herman; and goalkeeper
Annabel Austen.
*Four seniors will hold the captain title for the 2022 season: Lawton,
Emily Pringle, Raun, and Farman.
*Senior
Lucy Kellogg remains the lone member of Penn's last Ivy League championship squad in 2018.
*The last time Penn and Stony Brook met, only one student-athlete was born, Kellogg, and assistant coach
Megan Hinz was turning five later that year.
*Dr. Turner completed her staff at the beginning of August with the hiring of
Fred King. Coach King will join Dr. Turner and
Megan Hinz on the sideline for the 2022 season. King joins the Quakers as the Associate Head Coach following a 10-year stint at Saint Joseph's University. Hinz was originally hired in the spring by previous head coach Casey Brown and retained by Dr. Turner.
