Men's Soccer Crushes Colgate Behind Korzeniowski's Hat Trick, Seven-Point Effort

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Stas Korzeniowski recorded the first hat trick for the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team in nearly five years as the Quakers picked up a commanding 4-1 win over Colgate University Sunday night.

Quaker Notemeal
* Korzeniowski's hat trick was the first for the program since Joe Swenson achieved the feat against Yale back in 2017.

* Penn's four goals marked the second-highest scoring total under head coach Brian Gill. The Quakers scored five in a 5-1 win over Mount St. Mary's last season.

* Ben Stitz notched his first points of the season with a goal in the 9th minute to open the scoring.

* For the third straight match, Penn doubled its opponent's shots and shots on goal. Through four matches, Penn has taken 63 shots while conceding just 26, putting 29 on goal while allowing just 10 on goal.

How It Happened
Penn got on the board early, as Jack Rosener embarked on a remarkable run by much of the Colgate defense before setting up Korzeniowski in the box. Korzeniowski's effort was saved, but the ball deflected right to Stitz, who headed home the rebound.

Some fancy footwork on the right side by Charlie Gaffney in the 30th minute created enough space to deliver a pass in to a lunging Korzeniowski, who got his right foot on it just in front of the Colgate keeper.

Just over five minutes later, Korzeniowski scored his second of the day with a tremendous individual effort against nearly the entire Colgate back line.

The physicality on both sides picked up significantly in the final 10 minutes of the half, with the two sides combining for a single off-target attempt while each garnering a yellow.

After a fairly quiet start to the second half, Korzeniowski capped his remarkable day with an even more remarkable individual effort, taking the ball from just shy of midfield all the way into the 18-yard box, maneuvering around the keeper, creating an open net opportunity.

Nick Christoffersen fell less than 10 minutes shy of his first clean sheet of the season when the Raders got on he board in the 83rd minute.
