PHILADELPHIA – It was a special day for the University of Pennsylvania sprint football team on Saturday afternoon as the Quakers kicked off its 2022 season with their annual alumni game at Franklin Field. The current squad defeated the alums, 16-6.
The opening quarter featured great defense on both sides, as they combined to hold the offenses to a combined negative-15 yards on 11 total plays.
The current squad built a 10-0 lead at the half thanks to freshman
Brandon Graves' touchdown and a 27-yard field goal from sophomore
Adrian Montemayor. Senior QB
Andrew Paolini was 12-of-19 passing for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Graves led the team with six catches for 79 yards including the 27-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
The Alumni had one scoring play, as former CSFL Player of the Year Ed Jenkins connected with Barry Klein for a four-yard touchdown. The alumni elected to go for two, but the pass from Jenkins was in-and-out of the intended receiver's hands.
The Quakers open the 2022 season next Friday for their Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) Awareness game against Alderson Broaddus. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Franklin Field.
