How It Happened
Villanova controlled possession early in the match, forcing Gladu to make a save in the seventh minute. Penn's first shot of the match did not come until
Paige Kenton's off-target effort in the 20th minute.
The defenses of both teams held off any offensive pressure, and the match was still searching for its first goal as it moved to the second half.
Reese Sutter's shot in the 50th minute was the first of the period and just off target. About ten minutes later, on the hour mark, Gladu made a crucial save to keep the match scoreless.
Shortly after a Gladu save off the foot of Villanova's Cici Fox at one end, Penn was awarded a corner kick at the other. Lawton took the kick and placed the ball in a perfect spot for Raun to head it into the net to open the scoring.
The Wildcats turned up the attack after that, though, and roughly ten minutes later they tied the match at 1-1 off a corner kick that Fox squeezed by Gladu. Following the Villanova goal, the Quakers were unable to gain the momentum to put together a real scoring chance and the match ended in a draw.
