King Hired as Associate Head Coach of Women's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania's Douglas N. Brush Head Coach of Women's Soccer, Dr. Krissy Turner, has announced the hiring of Fred King as the program's Associate Head Coach. King joins Dr. Turner and Megan Hinz on the sideline to lead this new chapter of Penn Women's Soccer.

"I am very excited to work with everyone at the University of Pennsylvania and am looking forward to getting started this season," said King. "I want to thank Dr. Krissy Turner, Josh LaRosa, and Megan Hinz for this terrific opportunity."

King arrives in University City following a ten-year stint at Saint Joseph's University. He arrived on Hawk Hill in August of 2012 as an assistant coach and was promoted to associate head coach in January of 2019. King helped the Hawks soar to new heights during his tenure, earning eight Atlantic 10 Championship berths and the 2016 A-10 regular-season title. King was also instrumental in player development as he saw 21 of his Hawks garner A-10 all-conference honors and seven named to all-region squads.

"I am very excited to welcome Fred and his family to Penn," said Dr. Turner. "Fred is a proven soccer mind with an exceptional eye for talent. I am very pleased with how the staff has come together. I believe we have positioned the program to take a step forward with a first-class staff."

In addition to Saint Joseph's, King's collegiate coaching experience includes stops at Rutgers, and with the men's teams at Tufts and Harvard.
Prior to making the move to Hawk Hill, King spent two seasons at Rutgers. Serving as Director of Soccer Operations, he helped the Scarlet Knights post an 18-17-4 record over that period, including a #17 ranking in the NSCAA National Poll in 2010 (now recognized as the United Soccer Coaches).

Outside of the collegiate ranks, King has served as a State Development Coach for the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association (2008-10) and served as the head coach of the U-15 Olympic Development Program team. He has also spent time in the early 2000s coaching the F.C. Greater Boston Bolts, where he began his professional coaching career.

A 2002 graduate of Goldsmiths College, University of London, King was a three-year letter winner and served as team captain of the First XI soccer team. While playing for the University of London Representative team, he also competed with Dulwich Hamlet Football Club.

King and his family currently reside in Moorestown, New Jersey.
