PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania's Hall of Fame Head Coach of Wrestling,
Roger Reina C'84, WEV'05, has announced his team's schedule for the upcoming 2022-23 season. The schedule features several competition opportunities against some of the top ranked programs from across the country. Highlighting the docket is Penn's opening dual meet with the 2021 NCAA National Champion Iowa Hawkeyes as well as hosting the EIWA Championships at The Palestra in March.
"We are extremely thrilled with our schedule for next season," said Reina. "We're excited for the opportunities our athletes will have to compete with some of the nation's top wrestlers both at home and on the road. We return an experienced team including 10 previous NCAA Qualifiers and we feel #TheMovement is well positioned for the step up in competition. We aim to continue to climb the ladder nationally and the schedule for next season will prepare us to do just that. We can't wait to welcome our fans back and pack The Palestra."
The Red and Blue will compete in 14 dual meets in addition to trips to the Journeyman Collegiate Classic, the Garden State Grapple and Midlands, with all sights set on the EIWA Championships at The Palestra and the NCAA Championships at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
The Keystone Classic will once again take place at The Palestra in November. The Quakers will also host Army West Point, North Carolina, Lehigh, Brown, Harvard, Princeton, and American during the upcoming season.
A FEW NOTES ON THE 2022-23 PENN WRESTLING SCHEDULE
*The annual Keystone Classic in The Palestra will be the first time to get a look at the 2022-23 Quakers in action in Philadelphia. Joining the hosts this season will be Appalachian State, #5 Arizona State, Drexel, Duke, Franklin & Marshall, George Mason, Harvard, Rider, Sacred Heart, and Virginia Tech.
*Penn will make the post-Thanksgiving trip to Iowa City for its fourth overall meeting with Iowa and first since 2001. This is a home-and-home series with the 24-time NCAA National Champion Hawkeyes who will make a return trip to The Palestra during the 2023-24 season.
*After returning from Iowa, the Quakers will head to the Prudential Center for the 2022 Garden State Grapple as part of an EIWA/Big Ten cross over. Joining Penn in representing the EIWA are Binghamton, Drexel, and Princeton. Representing the Big Ten are Penn's two opponents, Rutgers and Wisconsin as well as Michigan State and Indiana. All eight dual meets will take place in Newark at The Prudential Center on December 4. Penn will face Rutgers at 12:30 p.m. and then Wisconsin at 2:30 p.m.

*The final dual meet of the 2022 calendar year sees Army West Point making the trip to University City as Penn opens the EIWA portion of its schedule. The two teams are an even 3-3 in the last six meetings. This meet will occur the evening before the annual Army-Navy Football game which will also take place in Philadelphia.
*With the cancelation of the 2021 Midlands, this will mark the first Midlands since 2019 when the Quakers finished in 12th-place and both
Anthony Artalona and
Michael Colaiocco reached the podium after a grueling two-day tournament featuring some of the nation's best wrestlers.
*North Carolina and Penn are squaring off for the just the fifth time ever and it marks the first meeting between the two programs since November of 2011. Penn has defeated UNC in all four of the previous meetings, twice at The Palestra (2005 & '08), once in Chapel Hill (2006), and at Albany in 2011.
*Stanford and Penn will meet for the first time since 2018. The Quakers hold a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series as the Cardinal took a 21-20 decision in Palo Alto in 2018.
*After returning from California, the remaining dual meets on the schedule feature all EIWA opponents. The Quakers will host Lehigh (1/20), Brown (1/27), Harvard (1/28), Princeton (2/10), and American (2/19). They will hit the road for dual meets at Columbia (1/22), Cornell (2/5), and Drexel (2/12).
*Penn's dual meet at Cornell is the Rumble & Tumble meet on February 5.
*The final road match of the season has the Red and Blue making the quick trip down 33rd Street to take on Drexel at 1 p.m. on February 12.
*The 2022-23 regular season concludes with Senior Day at The Palestra on February 19 against American.
