Lightweights 1V8 Seventh, 2V8 Fifth in Final Day at IRA Nationals

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight crew has completed racing at the 2022 IRA National Championships. The weekend's racing took place on Mercer Lake. Penn rowed two Eights and a Four at the Championships, with the Eights wrapping up action on Sunday after the Fours completed their season on Saturday.

Varsity Eight
Penn rowed in a three-boat Petite Final on Sunday and led wire-to-wire over Mercyhurst and MIT. The Quakers clocked 6:10.228 over Mercer's 2,000-meter course and held off a challenge from Mercyhurst (6:13.470) over the third quarter of the race. MIT was timed in 6:19.598.
 
Second Varsity Eight
Penn rowed in a seven-boat Grand Final on Sunday and used a nice push late in the race to finish fifth overall. The Quakers clocked 6:14.158 and simply ran out of room trying to chase down Yale (6:13.108) for fourth. Navy won the title in 6:05.378, while Cornell won silver in 6:07.880 and Columbia earned bronze in 6:09.674. Penn beat Princeton (6:17.516) and Georgetown (6:21.106).
