WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight crew completed the second day of racing at the IRA National Championships on Saturday. The Quakers are rowing three Eights and a Four this weekend.
 
Penn's Third Varsity Eight will row in the Petite Final on Sunday, while the Varsity and Second Varsity Eights will row in Third Finals. The Four completed its season on Saturday, rowing in the Fourth Final and missing out on a win in that race by less than a second.
 
Varsity Eight
Penn was part of a Boathouse Row sweep in its C/D semi on Saturday, taking second place in 5:49.445 between race winner Drexel (5:48.053) and third-place Temple (5:50.933). Those three will row in the Third Final on Sunday while Oregon State, Colgate and Santa Clara move to the Fourth Final.
 
Second Varsity Eight
Penn took second in its C/D semi here, as well, and will row in the Third Final on Sunday morning. The Quakers timed 6:01.634 across Mercer's 2,000-meter course to finish behind Northeastern (5:59.448) in the five-boat race. Stanford (6:04.330) joins the Huskies and the Quakers in the Third Final, while Bates and Oregon State will row in Sunday's Fourth Final.
 
Third Varsity Eight
Penn will row in the Petite Final after taking sixth in its A/B semi on Saturday. The Quakers clocked 6:13.900 across Mercer's course, well off the pace set by the other five boats. Yale won the race in 5:46.462 and will be joined in the Grand Final by second-place Washington (5:49.300) and Cal (5:53.316). Princeton (5:55.600) and Navy (5:58.324) will be in the Petite with Penn.
 
Varsity Four
Penn raced in the Fourth Final on Saturday and ended its season with a second-place finish in the seven-boat race. Marietta was the race winner in 6:48.635, less than a second ahead of the Quakers (6:49.499). Drexel was third in 6:52.331, followed by Cornell, Tufts, Catholic and Marist.
