PHILADELPHIA – The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) has announced its Scholar Athletes for the 2021-22 women's rowing season at the NCAA Division I level. For the second straight year, the University of Pennsylvania women's rowing program is honored to have 12 women recognized which ties the record high set last year. Prior to last year, the previous high had been eight, in 2015.
 
In order to be named a CRCA Scholar Athlete, student-athletes must achieve the criteria described below:
  *The student-athlete has met all eligibility rules as defined by her institution
  *The student-athlete is in her second, third or fourth year of eligibility
  *The student-athlete rowed in her institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75 percent of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event.
  *The student-athlete has had a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year)
 
Penn's honorees this year were seniors Chloe Rosenberg and Emily Strambi; juniors Catherine Kiyonaga, Josie Konopka, Kate Maietta, Sophia Poersch and Helena Wolk; and sophomores Eve Chiarello, Maddie Dempsey, Catherine Moore, Simone Vorperian, and Alex Wiley.
 
Penn made history this season under head coach Wesley Ng, advancing to the NCAA Championship as a full team for the first time in program history. Previously the only NCAA appearance by a Quakers' boat was in 1998. Penn finished 11th at NCAAs.
